Rajpal Yadav has suffered a major legal setback after the Delhi High Court sentenced him to three months' imprisonment in a cheque bounce case on Friday.
The verdict was delivered by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma in a case filed by MS Murli Projects Private Limited. The court observed that the actor had been given several opportunities to fulfil his commitments and clear the outstanding dues but repeatedly failed to do so despite multiple assurances.
Earlier, in May 2024, a sessions court had sentenced Rajpal Yadav to six months in jail in the same cheque bounce case. The Delhi High Court had subsequently stayed the sentence after his counsel assured the court that both parties were likely to reach an amicable settlement. The matter was also referred to the Delhi High Court Mediation Centre.
However, the High Court found that despite seeking repeated adjournments and promising a settlement, the actor failed to deposit the agreed amount. The court also noted that he had sought permission to pay ₹2.5 crore in instalments but did not comply with the payment schedule.
Taking these circumstances into account, the Delhi High Court sentenced Rajpal Yadav to three months' imprisonment.
