A 75-year-old man and his wife were found dead under suspicious circumstances inside their locked residence in Ludhiana's Shimlapuri area on Saturday triggering a major police investigation.
The deceased have been identified as Kuldeep Singh (75) and his wife Harmeet Kaur. The incident came to light after residents noticed a strong foul smell emanating from the house and alerted the police.
Upon reaching the spot, police broke open the main door and discovered the bodies of the elderly couple inside the house. The shocking scene left neighbors and officials stunned.
According to local residents, the couple was known for their calm and quiet nature. They were last seen taking a walk in the neighborhood about two days ago, and there had been no indication of any untoward incident. When no activity was noticed at the house from Friday until Saturday afternoon, neighbors assumed the elderly couple was resting indoors.
However, the situation raised alarm when an unbearable stench began spreading from the house on Saturday afternoon. Residents immediately informed the police, leading to the discovery.
Given the seriousness of the case, senior police officials, forensic experts, and a dog squad were rushed to the scene. Preliminary investigations have not yet established the exact cause of death, adding to the mystery surrounding the incident.
The bodies have been sent to the Civil Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to determine whether any outsider entered the house during the last two days.
Authorities have stated that all possible angles are being investigated, and further action will depend on the findings of the post-mortem and forensic reports.
