An explosion occurred near the hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron was staying during his visit to Syria's capital, Damascus, on Tuesday.

According to media reports, local residents heard multiple explosions, while videos shared on social media showed smoke rising from the area. Security forces immediately sealed off nearby roads and surrounded the blast site.

No casualties have been reported so far. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion.

President Macron arrived in Damascus on Monday. He is the first major European Union leader to visit the Syrian capital after the removal of Bashar al-Assad from power.

The French presidential office, the Élysée Palace, confirmed that the blasts occurred near Macron's hotel but said the explosions were not heard by the presidential convoy. Macron was unharmed and continued with his scheduled engagements.
