Patiala witnessed a tragic incident after four members of the same family allegedly consumed a poisonous substance, leaving two dead and two battling for their lives.
The deceased have been identified as Vikas Batish (45) and his 13-year-old daughter Khushi Batish. His wife, Tamanna Batish (43), and 11-year-old son Kanav Batish remain in critical condition and are undergoing treatment at Rajindra Hospital.
According to police, the family, residents of Officers Colony in Patiala, fell seriously ill shortly after allegedly consuming poison. They were rushed to Rajindra Hospital, where doctors declared Vikas and Khushi dead despite efforts to save them. Tamanna and Kanav continue to receive intensive medical care under close observation.
DSP City-1 Sanjeev Singla said the preliminary investigation points to a dispute related to domestic financial dealings as a possible reason behind the incident. However, he stressed that the exact circumstances are yet to be established.
Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and are collecting additional evidence. Investigators are also questioning relatives and local residents to determine what led to the suspected poisoning. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, and further details will emerge after forensic and witness examinations.
