Chandigarh, 28 September: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab senior leader and Chairman of Jalandhar Improvement Trust, Jagtar Singh Sanghera, reacting to the arrest of Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira, said that FIR was registered against Khaira during Congress government, now the same Congress leaders are calling it political vendetta.
Addressing the media during a press conference at the Chandigarh party headquarters on Thursday, Jagtar Sanghera said that there is no place for drug smugglers in Punjab. The AAP government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is taking stringent action against the drug mafia.
He said that the arrest of Sukhpal Khaira is not about vendetta politics. The law is taking its course. Opposition parties are spreading lies that SIT has no evidence against Sukhpal Khaira. Whereas the reality is that many new evidences have been found by the SIT in the drugs case against Sukhpal Khaira. He was arrested on the basis of this evidence.
He said that the Supreme Court had not acquitted him in this case, court proceedings were still going on. An example of this is that just a few days ago, Sukhpal Khaira had sought permission from the court to go abroad, because the court had banned him from traveling abroad. The court asked him to appear before the court with the reason for going abroad and all its details, but he has not been able to submit it to the court yet.
He said that it is very unfortunate that all the opposition parties are standing behind a drug smuggler. But Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is not afraid of anyone. Whoever is involved in the drugs mafia, no matter how influential they are, the Mann government will not spare them.
