Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC). The appointment was approved by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann following recommendations from a high-level selection committee.
A three-member committee, chaired by Punjab Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha, met on May 27 to evaluate candidates for the top post. After reviewing applications, the panel submitted its recommendations to the Chief Minister, who gave final approval to Gupta’s appointment.
Gupta succeeds former Punjab cadre bureaucrat Vishwajit Khanna, whose tenure as PSERC Chairperson ended in April. Following Khanna’s retirement, Commission member Ravinder Saini had been serving as the interim Chairperson.
As Chairperson, Gupta will oversee critical issues including the rationalisation of electricity tariffs, ensuring the timely disbursement of power subsidies, enhancing the integration of renewable energy sources into the state’s power grid, and improving the quality and reliability of electricity services for consumers across Punjab.
