An 80-year-old former village sarpanch was mauled to death after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs in Jagraon, marking the second fatal stray dog attack in the area within the past 15 days.
The deceased has been identified as Jagdish Singh, a former sarpanch who had been living at his farm's motor room for a long time. According to reports, the incident occurred late on Wednesday night when Singh stepped out to use the bathroom. A pack of stray dogs allegedly attacked him, leaving him with severe injuries.
Dogs reportedly mauled one of his arms, and due to his advanced age, Singh was unable to defend himself. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene before help could arrive.
Villagers expressed outrage over the incident, alleging that packs of stray dogs have been attacking both residents and livestock for a long time. They claimed that despite submitting multiple complaints to the local administration and concerned departments, no effective action has been taken to address the growing menace.
The tragedy comes just 15 days after another fatal stray dog attack in Pabbian village, where a migrant labourer from Bihar was reportedly killed after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs, raising fresh concerns over public safety in the region.
