Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Monday sought a clear clarification from the Centre over reports of fuel rationing emerging from various states, stating that the lack of official communication has triggered panic among the public. He said people across the country are feeling uncertain due to the absence of reassurance from the government regarding fuel availability.
Reacting to reports suggesting that fuel rationing had begun in several regions, including Chandigarh, Warring termed the development as “ominous” and a worrying indicator of the challenges ahead. He cautioned that if the country fails to manage adequate fuel supplies for daily needs, it could severely impact economic stability and disrupt normal life. He stressed that the Government of India, particularly Prime Minister Narendra Modi, must take the situation seriously and respond with urgency.
The Ludhiana MP criticized the Centre’s approach, remarking that while the situation in the country appears to be deteriorating, the Prime Minister remains occupied with foreign visits. He asserted that such a critical issue demands immediate attention and decisive action at the highest level.
Warring also called for convening a special session of Parliament to deliberate on the emerging energy and economic crisis. He emphasized that a collective and transparent discussion is essential to address the growing concerns effectively. Referring to earlier warnings by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, he said the government should not dismiss concerns but instead conduct an honest assessment of the ground realities.
He further pointed out that merely imposing fuel limits or advising people to reduce consumption would not resolve the underlying issues. According to him, the Prime Minister should directly address the nation, explain the challenges, and present a clear roadmap to tackle the crisis.
Highlighting the need for unity, Warring said the Centre must take the opposition into confidence and work towards bipartisan solutions. He added that citizens deserve clarity and concrete measures to safeguard jobs, businesses, supply chains, and everyday life during this period of uncertainty.
