A 55-year-old man lost his life and four others were left in critical condition after inhaling toxic fumes from a generator in Amritsar’s Maha Singh Gate area on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Joginder Singh, a resident of Khasa. According to information, the incident occurred at a lottery shop owned by the well-known Gandhi Brothers Ludhiana Ghanta Ghar Wale. A generator had been installed in a closed room on the third floor of the building.
At the time of the incident, five people were reportedly having a meal inside the room when toxic gas began leaking from the generator, filling the enclosed space with smoke. As a result, all five individuals fell unconscious after inhaling the fumes.
They were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Doctors declared Joginder Singh dead on arrival, while Hira Lal, Sukhdev, Ashish Deep and Jagjit were admitted in critical condition. Their treatment is currently underway.
Police from B Division police station reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and initiated an investigation. Authorities are examining the scene and trying to determine the exact cause of the gas leak and the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
