Punjab School Education Department has suspended a Social Studies teacher posted at Government Middle School, Mothanwali village in Moga district after girl students accused him of inappropriate behaviour and intimidation.
The suspension was ordered on the directions of Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains following a preliminary report submitted by the District Education Officer (Secondary), Moga.
According to the complaint, students of Classes VI and VIII alleged that the teacher touched them inappropriately and threatened to fail them if they disclosed the incident to anyone. Taking serious note of the allegations, the department initiated immediate action while ordering a time-bound inquiry into the matter.
Expressing deep concern, Harjot Singh Bains said the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has a zero-tolerance policy towards any misconduct involving children.
He stressed that there can be no compromise on the safety, dignity, and mental well-being of students and warned that any teacher found guilty of misusing their position to intimidate or harm children would face strict action.
