Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed officials to formulate a comprehensive seven-point strategy to make the state drug-free, with a focus on curbing drug trafficking, increasing awareness among young people, strengthening treatment and rehabilitation facilities, and ensuring active participation of families and communities.

Chairing the first meeting of Sankalp Society on Tuesday, Saini asked officials to prepare a comprehensive and coordinated action plan to tackle drug abuse through prevention, enforcement, treatment and rehabilitation.

The Chief Minister said that protecting young people from drug addiction requires the active participation of families, teachers, panchayats and social organisations, alongside government efforts. He stressed that the campaign against drugs must go beyond enforcement and give equal importance to prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.

Seven Key Priorities for a Drug-Free Haryana

The Chief Minister outlined seven priorities for the campaign:

  1. Making police station jurisdictions drug-free.

  2. Dismantling drug trafficking networks across districts.

  3. Preventing the sale of intoxicating tablets through medical stores.

  4. Ensuring the cooperation and participation of families.

  5. Providing treatment facilities in hospitals.

  6. Strengthening awareness and counselling services in schools.

  7. Engaging young people in sports and other constructive activities.

Saini said action against drug trafficking should not be limited to local-level sellers. Investigations must identify the sources of narcotics and the supply networks behind their distribution, with strict legal action against those responsible.

Monthly Review to Ensure Accountability

The Chief Minister directed Sankalp Society to present concrete results every month. He said regular reviews would assess efforts to reduce the availability of drugs, connect affected individuals with treatment facilities, and prevent them from relapsing into addiction.

He also emphasised that accountability must be fixed at every level to ensure effective implementation of the strategy.

Saini said marathons, cycle rallies and other public participation programmes should form an integral part of the sustained campaign against drugs. The society will also monitor young people referred to treatment centres, those who complete treatment, and improvements in their health and recovery.

Multiple Departments to Work Together

Departments including Home, Health, Education, Social Justice and Empowerment, and Women and Child Development will coordinate their efforts to strengthen drug prevention, awareness, treatment and rehabilitation across the state.

The Chief Minister said Haryana's youth have immense potential and that providing them with proper guidance, better opportunities and support is a shared responsibility of the government and society.

Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Rajesh Khullar and senior officials from various departments were also present at the meeting.
