CHANDIGARH: Haryana Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Mr.Om Prakash Yadav said that senior citizens are an important part of the society, who not only guide the society but also shows excellent way through their experiences.
He said that the elders in our society are respected for their experience of life and wisdom.
Yadav said that financial assistance is being provided to senior citizens of the state who are more than 60 years of age and are unable to earn their own livelihood. This financial assistance is known as "Old Age Samman Allowance" Scheme.
Minister of State said that so far Old Age Samman Allowance of Rs 2250 per month is being provided to17,46000 beneficiaries by the Department to honour the senior citizens of the State, which helps them meeting their daily needs.
He said that the State Government is committed to protect the interests of senior citizens and have been providing financial and social support from time to time to solve the problems of their life. The young generation should pay respect and serve the senior citizes while taking inspiration from thier lives so that they do not feel helpless and neglected in old age.
Apart from this, with the aim of maintaining the morale of senior citizens and to honour them in the society, the state government has a scheme to award senior citizens on the lines of the Government of India. Under this scheme, every year on the occasion of Senior Citizen's Day, the senior citizens are honoured with the Rajya Puraskar, which includes the Lifetime Achievement Award, Best Mother Award, Courage and Gallantry Award, Best Voluntary Organization Award, Best Old Age Home Award, Best Day-Care Centre award etc.
