saved Rs 66 crore from cyber fraud, 1707 cyber thugs arrested

Haryana state has reached first position in the country by blocking more than 55000 mobile numbers related to cyber fraud. Haryana Police has saved Rs 66 crore of the people of the state from being cheated till November 30 this year. Along with this, Haryana Police, making efforts towards cyber security through 29 cyber police stations, has arrested 1707 cyber fraudsters and registered 2354 cyber fraud cases.

Giving information about this, Director General of Police Shatrujit Kapoor said that as a result of continuous actions being taken against cyber criminals, it has helped a lot in controlling cyber crime. He said that in order to keep a check on cyber criminals, Haryana Police is organizing cyber workshops in which the criminals are being caught by understanding the methods adopted on a daily basis. Apart from this, Haryana Police is working towards preventing cyber crime by holding meetings with representatives of financial institutions like banks etc. so that bank accounts can be frozen as soon as cyber fraud is reported. For this, the number of policemen deployed on the cyber helpline number has been increased from 35 to 70.

He said that till the beginning of December, Haryana Police has registered 2354 cases regarding cyber crime, out of which 409 are high profile cases. In these cases, the state police has succeeded in arresting 1707 cyber thugs. The amount of fraud in these high profile cases is more than Rs 5 lakh. In 79 cases, the state police has taken suo motu cognizance and registered a case. He said that the cyber team has reported about 59,195 mobile numbers used in cyber fraud in the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, out of which more than 55,933 mobile numbers have been blocked.

Kapoor said that the state police is committed to saving the earnings of the general public. In this direction, 27 police personnel have been appointed as incident managers at the National Cyber Helpline 1930 headquarters located in ERSS Building 112, Panchkula. He told that it is the responsibility of these incident managers that if the fraud reporting helpline is registered on 1930, they should immediately contact the nodal officer of the bank where the fraud amount has gone and get the fraud amount frozen. Due to this achievement, in the month of November, the State Police has succeeded in saving a record amount of Rs 6.77 crore from fraud in just one month. Earlier, the state police had saved Rs 4.80 crore from fraud in the month of October.

He said that due to the joint efforts of the nodal team and field units of the police, they have succeeded in saving Rs 66.92 crore in just 11 months, which in itself shows the efforts and determination of the state police. Of this amount, Rs 38.11 crore has been saved by the state's Panchkula cyber helpline team and Rs 28.81 crore has been saved by the district cyber units. Apart from this, in a major case of cyber fraud, Team 1930 had frozen the cyber fraud amount of more than Rs 51 lakh in the accounts itself.

one lakh complaints releted to cyber fraud till November, 2023

He said that till November 30 this year, around one lakh complaints related to cyber fraud were received on toll free number 1930, on which more than 51 thousand complaints have been resolved and work is being done on other complaints. This year, 2354 cases were registered under the IT Act, out of which the state police has disposed of 647 cases. There were also 409 high profile cases in this case.
