Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh, June 5 -
The temperature in the state is continuously rising, and heat waves are also occurring, causing inconvenience to the citizens. A government spokesperson from the health department has informed that special precautions must be taken to prevent the effects of the heat wave. He urged citizens to take special care of young children and the elderly.
He mentioned that the meteorological department has predicted extremely high temperatures and the possibility of heat waves in the coming days. In this regard, the health department has issued an advisory, according to which citizens need to take special precautions to protect themselves. Citizens should avoid consuming tea, coffee, and carbonated soft drinks that lead to dehydration. They should avoid consuming high-protein and stale foods. Recognize the signs of heat-related illnesses like weakness, dizziness, headaches, and seizures. If you feel unwell, see a doctor immediately.
Drink Plenty of Water
The spokesperson advised drinking sufficient water from time to time, even if not feeling thirsty, to prevent the effects of heat. Additionally, wear light-colored, loose, and porous cotton clothes. Use protective sunglasses, umbrellas/hats, shoes, or slippers when going out in the sun. Avoid strenuous activities when the outside temperature is high. Refrain from going out during the scorching midday heat unless necessary. Use ORS and homemade drinks like lassi, torani (rice water), lemonade, buttermilk, etc., which help in rehydrating the body. Keep the house cool by using curtains, shutters, or sunshades, and open windows at night, and use fans.
Keep Animals in the Shade
He advised to keep animals in the shade and provide them with ample water to drink. Citizens should take care of themselves as well as voiceless animals and birds. Make proper arrangements for water where birds frequently visit so that they can drink water when thirsty. Due to extreme heat, it is natural for birds to feel thirsty repeatedly.
