Punjab and Chandigarh are once again witnessing a surge in temperatures as a fresh heat wave spell began on Sunday, June 8, after an 11-day break. The heat wave is expected to continue until June 11, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Chandigarh Centre to issue a Yellow Alert for the region.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh, heat wave conditions are likely to prevail in four districts bordering Rajasthan — Fazilka, Muktsar, Bathinda, and Mansa. Weather conditions are expected to remain dry over the next few days, further intensifying the heat.
Weather experts have advised residents to avoid stepping out between 12 noon and 4 PM, when temperatures are at their highest. People are urged to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions if outdoor travel is unavoidable.
The state's maximum temperature has increased by 2.1 degrees Celsius and is now close to normal seasonal levels. Bathinda recorded the highest temperature in Punjab at 44.8°C, while Chandigarh registered a maximum temperature of 39.9°C.
Authorities have urged the public, especially children, elderly citizens, and those with health conditions, to remain cautious during the ongoing heat wave period.
