Himachal Pradesh Jal Shakti Department has launched a recruitment drive for Para Pump Operators, Para Fitters and Para Multipurpose Workers to support the operation and maintenance of drinking water and irrigation schemes across the state.

The department has invited offline applications in all Jal Shakti divisions, aiming to strengthen local manpower for the smooth functioning of water supply systems in both rural and urban areas.

Selected candidates will be required to provide six hours of service per day. Para Pump Operators and Para Fitters will receive ₹7,100 per month, while Para Multipurpose Workers will be paid ₹6,000 per month as honorarium.

Eligibility and application process

The minimum age for all posts is 18 years, while the maximum age is 45 years. Interested candidates must submit their applications at the concerned Jal Shakti Division office, as the recruitment process is being conducted entirely offline.

To ensure transparency, the department has introduced a 10-mark evaluation system based on educational qualifications, experience, reservation benefits and skill or physical tests.

Educational qualifications

For Para Pump Operator and Para Fitter posts, candidates must have passed Class 10 and possess an ITI certificate or a certificate issued under a government skill development scheme in the relevant trade.

Approved trades for Para Pump Operator:

  • Electrician, Wireman, Diesel, Mechanic, Pump Mechanic, Motor Mechanic, Pump Operator-cum-Mechanic

Required qualification for Para Fitter:

  • Fitter trade certificate

  • Plumber trade certificate

For the Para Multipurpose Worker post, the minimum qualification is Class 8 pass.

Selection criteria

Para Pump Operator and Para Fitter

  • Class 10 marks: up to 5 marks

  • BPL family status: 1 mark

  • Relevant work experience: 2 marks

  • Skill and physical test: 2 marks

Para Multipurpose Worker

  • Class 8 marks: 6 marks

  • Experience: 2 marks

  • Physical test: 2 marks

Technical and physical assessment

The skill test for Para Pump Operators will assess knowledge of pump repair, motor and electrical fault detection, alignment and valve operation.

For Para Fitters, candidates will be evaluated on pipeline leakage repair, threading work and the use of pipe-fitting tools.

A physical test is mandatory for all three posts, and candidates must be capable of carrying pipes and equipment in hilly and remote areas, reflecting the challenging terrain conditions of Himachal Pradesh.
