India will look to add to its medal tally on Day 5 of the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, with several athletes competing across medal events in swimming, gymnastics, boxing, weightlifting, and athletics.
The day marks the beginning of athletics competitions, where India is expected to be a strong contender for multiple podium finishes. Indian athletes will also be in action in swimming, gymnastics, boxing, and weightlifting, aiming to secure more medals for the country.
One of the standout performers has been Haryana boxer Ankush, who made an impressive Commonwealth Games debut. Competing in the men's 80kg category, Ankush outclassed Antigua's Jalan Jan with a dominant 5-0 unanimous decision, booking his place in the quarterfinals.
In weightlifting, Asian Games bronze medallist Gyaneshwari Yadav is among India's top medal hopes. She is competing in the women's 53kg category and will be aiming to clinch the gold medal in the final.
India also received another boost in boxing as world No. 5 Sachin Siwach advanced to the quarterfinals of the men's 60kg category. Siwach defeated England's William Hewitt with a commanding performance to stay in contention for a medal.
Meanwhile, swimmer Swatik Patil qualified for the final of the men's 100m breaststroke SB9 event after finishing fourth in the heats with a time of 1:15.85. His performance earned him automatic qualification for the medal race.
With several medal events still to come, India remains optimistic about strengthening its position in the Commonwealth Games 2026 medal standings.
