Chandigarh Excise Department has initiated strict action against violators under the new Excise Policy 2026-27. Acting on the directions of Excise and Taxation Commissioner Nishant Yadav, the department recently took action in two separate cases involving breaches of excise regulations.
Following an investigation, the department issued a show-cause notice to the licensee company, M/s Bajaj Spirits Private Limited. After reviewing the company's response and examining the records, Excise Collector Pradyuman Singh imposed a penalty of ₹7 lakh on the firm.
In one case, officials found that a liquor vend located in the internal market of Sector 9 was serving alcohol in violation of licensing conditions. The investigation revealed that the operator was mixing Smirnoff Minty Jamun Vodka with ice gola and serving it to people outside the licensed premises, which is prohibited under excise rules.
In another case, the Excise Department took action against the bar operated by M/s Kaindal Hospitality at SCO-11 in Sector 7. The department found that the establishment had violated provisions of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914, and related regulations. As a result, the bar's licence was cancelled.
Officials said the department will continue strict enforcement measures to ensure compliance with the new excise policy and prevent violations across Chandigarh.
