A 28-year-old man died under suspicious circumstances after falling from the fourth floor of a building during a birthday party in Ludhiana's Jamalpur area on Tuesday night. The deceased, identified as Govinda, was a labourer and the sole breadwinner of his family.
Police from Jamalpur police station reached the spot on Wednesday morning, took custody of the body, and launched an investigation. The landlord and several friends who attended the party have been detained for questioning.
The victim's brother, Rahul, has alleged that Govinda was murdered. In his statement to the police, Rahul claimed that Govinda had gone to attend a friend's birthday celebration, where he got into a heated argument with some of the guests. He alleged that, following the altercation, a group of party attendees deliberately pushed Govinda off the rooftop, leading to fatal injuries.
However, another attendee, Tratik, rejected the allegations, maintaining that there was no argument or confrontation during the party. He claimed Govinda had consumed excessive alcohol and accidentally lost his balance while walking on the rooftop, causing him to fall. Tratik described the murder allegations as baseless.
According to police officials, the body has been sent to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination, while forensic experts are collecting evidence from the scene. Investigators said the exact cause of death will be determined only after the post-mortem report and cross-verification of eyewitness statements. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
