A 22-year-old man employed at a shoe showroom in Ludhiana's MBD Mall was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a vacant plot, prompting police to launch an investigation into a possible murder.
The deceased, identified as Karan, had left his home on Sunday morning, telling family members that he was going to a police station to file a complaint after his mobile phone was allegedly snatched. However, he did not return home.
According to family members, Karan's aunt was informed by local residents on Monday morning that a young man was lying unconscious in a vacant plot. When she reached the spot, she identified the victim as Karan. Family members said his body bore multiple injuries, including fractures to his arms and legs and a severe head wound. They added that he was lying face down and was difficult to recognize due to the extent of the injuries.
Karan's brother, Pintu, said that after leaving home around 9 a.m. on Sunday, Karan had reportedly visited a relative's residence near Threeke Phatak with a friend. The family was later informed by the same relative that Karan's body had been found in the vacant plot.
Pintu alleged that Karan appeared to have been brutally assaulted, noting multiple injury marks on his face and discoloration on his body. The family believes he may have been beaten to death and has demanded a fair and thorough investigation to identify and punish those responsible.
Karan was the eldest of three siblings and had been working at a shoe showroom in MBD Mall. The family, originally from Unnao district in Uttar Pradesh, has been residing in Ludhiana for the past 15 years. According to relatives, Karan had no known enmity with anyone.
Confirming the incident, ASI John Peter of Sadar Police Station said the body has been taken into custody and further legal proceedings are underway. He added that injury marks were found on the victim's body and that police are examining all possible angles, including murder.
