Punjab Newsline | Mansa
Parvinder Singh Jhota, head of an anti-drug task force in Punjab’s Mansa, was shot dead on Tuesday morning, leaving his family devastated. In a heartbreaking scene, his mother was seen crying inconsolably beside his body as she recalled her son’s final moments before he left home.
Remembering their last conversation, Jhota’s mother said he had touched her feet before leaving the house. As he walked out, he told her, “Mother, keep my food ready. I will come back and eat.”
She said she had been waiting for her son to return home after finishing his work, but instead received the news of his death.
The grieving mother alleged that Jhotta had earlier expressed fears for his life. However, whether the killing was linked to any alleged conspiracy remains subject to police investigation.
‘My Son Was Fighting to Save Punjab’s Youth from Drugs’
Overcome with grief, Jhota’s mother said her son had been working to protect young people from drug addiction. She said he had been trying to bring children and young women out of the grip of drugs and had consistently raised his voice against the menace.
“He wanted to save the future of Punjab’s youth, but he lost his own life,” she said while mourning her son.
Jhota’s supporters have also linked the killing to his anti-drug campaign and demanded a fair and impartial investigation. They have called for the arrest of those responsible and a thorough probe into whether any conspiracy was behind the attack.
Father Refuses to Perform Last Rites
In a strong protest, Jhota’s father has refused to perform his son’s last rites until action is taken against the accused and concrete steps are initiated to identify and apprehend those involved in the drug trade in the city.
The family has demanded accountability, insisting that the authorities must act against the alleged assailants and take effective measures to curb drug trafficking in Mansa.
Tension Grips Mansa After Killing
The killing triggered tension in Mansa, with family members and supporters announcing a citywide shutdown and beginning to gather at the Civil Hospital.
Following the incident, police launched raids to trace the absconding accused, identified as medical store operator Ashwani Kumar. Mansa Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) also reached the Civil Hospital and initiated an investigation into the case.
Additional security personnel were deployed outside the hospital to maintain law and order amid the tense situation.
