Punjab government has provided major relief to more than 4,000 government doctors belonging to the Punjab Civil Medical Services (PCMS) cadre by waiving the Punjab Medical Council (PMC) credit hour fees for all state-sponsored training programs and workshops.
With this decision, doctors will no longer have to spend significant amounts on private seminars or courses to earn the credit hours required for the renewal of their professional registration. Instead, all training sessions and workshops organized by the Health Department will now be eligible for PMC credit hours free of cost.
According to the Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA), a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will soon be issued to ensure that doctors can claim their credit hours without facing any procedural difficulties.
The association welcomed the move, describing it as a major benefit for government doctors across the state. PCMSA also expressed gratitude to the Health Department leadership, the Health Minister, the Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare (PSHFW), and the Director Health Services (DHS) for consistently pursuing the issue and facilitating the decision.
This initiative is expected to reduce the financial burden on government doctors while encouraging greater participation in official training programmes aimed at enhancing healthcare services in Punjab.
