The BSE Sensex jumped 1,403.71 points to 78,689.87 in early trade, while the NSE Nifty surged 378.85 points to 24,340.40.
GIFT Nifty was also trading 377 points, or 1.57 per cent, higher at 24,327, signalling a strong gap-up opening on Dalal Street.
