Punjab Police's Counter Intelligence unit in Amritsar has achieved a major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking by busting a cross-border international narcotics smuggling module. Two alleged drug smugglers have been arrested, and around 30 kilograms of heroin has been recovered from their possession.
According to the police, the seized heroin has an estimated international market value of more than ₹200 crore. Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested accused were working under the directions of a foreign-based handler linked to a cross-border drug trafficking network.
The suspects were allegedly responsible for collecting heroin consignments from different locations and delivering them to other traffickers across various parts of Punjab, making them a crucial part of the state's drug supply chain.
An FIR has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Police Station in Amritsar. Police have intensified the investigation to identify both the forward and backward links of the network and arrest other individuals connected to the international drug trafficking syndicate.
