A major fire broke out on Monday morning at a factory manufacturing surgical products near the Surgical Complex on the Jalandhar-Kapurthala Road. The blaze quickly spread across a large section of the facility, sending thick black smoke into the sky that could be seen from several kilometres away.

According to eyewitnesses, employees and local residents noticed smoke emerging from the factory and immediately alerted the fire brigade and factory management. Strong winds intensified the fire, allowing it to spread rapidly through the premises.

Several fire tenders rushed to the spot and launched a large-scale firefighting operation. Due to the severity of the incident, additional fire engines were called in to assist. Firefighters remained engaged for more than two hours in efforts to bring the blaze under control.

Officials fear that surgical products and other materials stored inside the factory may have suffered significant damage, though the exact extent of the losses is yet to be determined.

Police teams also reached the scene and secured the surrounding area, advising residents and workers to stay away from the affected site as a precaution.

Preliminary investigations suggest that a short circuit may have triggered the fire. However, authorities said the exact cause and the total financial loss will be known only after a detailed inquiry.

No casualties or injuries have been reported, providing relief amid the large-scale fire. Police and fire department officials have launched an investigation into the incident.
