A massive fire broke out once again in the furniture market of Baltana, causing widespread destruction and reducing around 22 furniture sheds to ashes.
Furniture and other goods worth lakhs of rupees stored inside the sheds were destroyed in the blaze. The fire spread so rapidly that shopkeepers did not even get an opportunity to remove their belongings. Huge flames and thick clouds of smoke triggered panic across the area.
Soon after receiving information, fire brigade teams rushed to the spot. Considering the intensity of the blaze, seven to eight fire tenders were deployed to control the fire.
Firefighters battled the flames for a considerable time before bringing the situation under control. Efforts were also made to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring sheds.
The incident has caused massive financial losses to traders operating in the market. However, the exact extent of the damage is yet to be assessed.
