A massive fire broke out at a tent house warehouse in Nangal Ambian village near Shahkot in Jalandhar district late last night, destroying the entire stock of goods stored inside. The incident has caused an estimated financial loss of around ₹20 lakh to the tent house owner.
The owner, Ranjit Kumar Billa, who runs a business under the name of ‘Billa Tent and Sound Service’ in the village, has suspected that some miscreant deliberately set the warehouse on fire. He had constructed the new warehouse just about a month ago.
According to information, the fire broke out at around midnight, when flames suddenly started emerging from the warehouse. Within a short time, the fire spread across the entire structure, triggering panic in the area.
After noticing the flames, local villagers rushed to the spot and tried to douse the fire on their own. The Fire Brigade was immediately informed, following which a team from Nakodar reached the village. After considerable efforts, firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control.
However, by the time the fire was extinguished, all the goods stored inside the warehouse had been reduced to ashes. The warehouse shed was also completely damaged in the incident.
Ranjit Kumar Billa said the warehouse contained around 1,300 chairs, tables, 10 coolers, fans, tent equipment, a Peter Rehra and several other essential items used for his business.
He added that the fire spread rapidly due to the presence of plastic and cloth materials, leaving no possibility of salvaging the goods.
The owner estimated his total losses at approximately ₹20 lakh and expressed suspicion that the fire might have been deliberately caused by unidentified miscreants.
