Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh, April 23 -
Maharana Pratap Horticulture University (MHU), Karnal will establish new dimensions in the field of horticulture in the state and will be instrumental in bringing about revolutionary changes for the farmers. These transformative initiatives will not only enhance the financial prosperity of farmers but also mitigate their reliance on traditional farming methods. This shift will play an important role in conserving natural resources while fostering sustainable agricultural practices.
Moving forward in this direction, under the guidance of MHU, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Suresh K. Malhotra, research work will be started on seed spices including marigold flower, onion, and garlic. Farmers will be provided with an improved variety of seeds as well as information about their methods. He said that research will be conducted along with the cultivation of fennel, coriander, celery, fenugreek, onion, and garlic in 10 acres during the upcoming kharif season. A special seed production program will be carried out to provide farmers with high-quality seeds.
The Vice-Chancellor stated that a department of plantation, spices, medicinal, and aromatic research has been created to conduct research, along with a team of scientists. The department has identified the land and the work will be completed soon, he added.
He stated that MHU aims to improve soil fertility so that natural resources are not overexploited, implying that farmers should farm in harmony with the ecosystem.
