Amritsar residents are set to face another price hike, with milk becoming costlier by ₹5 per litre from November 1. Dairy operators at the Haibowal and Tajpur dairy complexes have reportedly finalised the revised rates through mutual agreement, adding to the financial burden on household budgets.
Kuldeep Singh Lahoria, head of the District Dairy Association, along with other representatives, has formally confirmed the price revision. According to the association, milk prices will increase by ₹5 per litre at milk outlets across Ludhiana. In addition, the fat rate for dairy operators involved in the cream trade has been increased by ₹0.30.
The association has urged all dairy traders to adopt the revised rates, citing the rising cost of maintaining dairy cattle and producing milk.
Dairy operators have attributed the increase primarily to the sharp rise in cattle feed prices. According to traders, the market rates of dry fodder, oilseed cake, cattle feed and green fodder have surged in recent days, significantly increasing the overall cost of milk production.
They said the rising input costs have made it increasingly difficult for dairy operators to sustain their businesses and manage household expenses.
With the revised rates scheduled to take effect on November 1, consumers will have to pay more for their daily milk purchases, adding further pressure on family budgets amid rising living costs.
