A traffic police ASI in Mohali has been sent to the police lines after a video allegedly showing him accepting a bribe went viral on social media. The department has also ordered an internal inquiry and disciplinary action against the officer.
The controversy erupted after two youths uploaded a video claiming that the ASI demanded money in exchange for not issuing a traffic challan. The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday evening under the Zirakpur flyover.
In the viral video, one of the youths can be seen talking to the ASI standing near a traffic booth. During the conversation, the युवक initially offers Rs 500, but the ASI is allegedly heard asking for more money. The youth then takes cash from another person standing nearby and hands it over to the officer.
The video also captures the youth requesting the ASI not to issue a challan and to delete the photograph taken during the traffic check. The ASI is allegedly heard assuring him that no challan would be issued.
However, the accused ASI has denied taking any bribe and claimed that the video has been presented in a misleading manner. Authorities have initiated a departmental probe to verify the allegations.
