A tragic late-night roof collapse claimed the lives of a mother and her teenage son while leaving two daughters critically injured in Punjab's Talwandi Sabo on Monday, plunging the local community into mourning.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. when the family of Dharam Singh, also known as Kala, was asleep inside a room of their house. According to officials and local residents, the room's roof suddenly gave way, burying the occupants under the debris.
Dharam Singh's wife, Veerpal Kaur (40), and their 14-year-old son, Arshdeep Singh, died on the spot after being trapped beneath the collapsed roof.
The couple's two daughters sustained serious injuries and were initially given first aid before being referred to AIIMS Bathinda, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Dharam Singh escaped the tragedy as he was sleeping outside the room at the time of the collapse.
Residents said the family belongs to an economically weaker section and survives through daily wage labour. Following the incident, neighbours rushed to the spot and joined rescue efforts to pull the victims from the rubble.
On receiving information about the tragedy, Talwandi Sabo Municipal Council Chairperson Kulveer Kaur Saran, along with other public representatives and local dignitaries, visited the bereaved family to offer condolences and express solidarity during their time of grief.
