The arrival of the monsoon has already disrupted daily life in Mumbai, with intense rainfall lashing the city within the first 24 hours. Between 8 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday, the Malvani Fire Station recorded 334 mm of rainfall, while the F/South Ward received 328 mm. Another 27 locations across the city reported rainfall between 200 mm and 300 mm.

Heavy downpours led to waterlogging in several areas, including the Andheri subway, which was temporarily shut down due to flooding. In Vikhroli West, a retaining wall near a residential building collapsed. Multiple incidents of uprooted trees were also reported, causing damage to several vehicles across the city.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Mumbai and Palghar, warning of extremely heavy rainfall. Orange Alerts have been issued for Thane, Raigad, and Sindhudurg districts.

Meanwhile, pre-monsoon showers continue across several northern and central states, including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi. In Madhya Pradesh, 17 districts experienced rainfall on Tuesday.

In Bihar, at least 11 people lost their lives after being struck by lightning during thunderstorms on Tuesday.

According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon has advanced further into parts of Telangana, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Bihar. The weather agency expects the monsoon to reach more areas of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat over the next two to three days.
