Chandigarh Administration has dismissed as fake a social media order claiming that a public holiday had been declared on June 26 (Friday) on the occasion of Muharram. Officials clarified that no such holiday has been announced in the Union Territory and that all government offices, schools, colleges, and other institutions will function normally.
The clarification came after a purported government order began circulating widely on WhatsApp and other social media platforms from Wednesday onwards. The viral document claimed that the restricted holiday (RH) for Muharram had been converted into a gazetted public holiday for June 26.
However, the Chandigarh Administration categorically rejected the claim, stating that the document being shared online is fake, misleading, and factually incorrect.
In an official statement, the administration said that no notification regarding a public holiday on June 26 has been issued by the Home Department. Citizens have been advised not to rely on unverified social media messages and to refer only to official government notifications for information related to public holidays.
