Punjab School Education Department (Secondary) has issued fresh instructions amid the ongoing general transfer process for government school teachers and non-teaching staff, stating that employees assigned election-related duties will not be eligible for transfers during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 process.
According to the department's order, teachers, computer faculty members, and non-teaching employees serving as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) or Sector Supervisors for election work cannot be transferred without prior approval from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The directive follows instructions issued by the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, regarding the ongoing electoral revision exercise.
The Education Department has also directed all school principals and Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) to verify and upload the election duty details of concerned employees online by 6:00 PM on June 19, 2026, warning that any delay or negligence in the process will not be tolerated.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Teachers Front (DTF) Punjab has strongly opposed the Chief Electoral Officer's directive, arguing against the decision to freeze transfers of teachers, computer faculty, and non-teaching staff engaged in election duties during the SIR-2026 exercise.
The department reiterated that under the Election Commission's guidelines, no official or employee associated with election work can be transferred during the SIR period without explicit approval from the ECI, and strict compliance with these instructions is mandatory.
