Pakistani government has increased fuel prices, raising the cost of petrol by PKR 4.93 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by PKR 7.15 per litre. The revised rates came into effect on July 22.
Following the hike, the retail price of petrol has reached PKR 320.73 per litre, while high-speed diesel now costs PKR 367.21 per litre.
Citing sharp fluctuations in international crude oil prices, the government has also announced a major policy shift. Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said fuel prices will now be revised on a daily basis instead of the previous weekly schedule.
The decision has drawn strong opposition from the All Pakistan Dealers Association, which rejected the new pricing mechanism and warned that fuel dealers could stage protests later this week in response to the government's move.
