A suspected Pakistani drone was recovered from a border area in Punjab's Ferozepur district, marking yet another incident of drone intrusion along the India-Pakistan border. The drone was found near Mamdot block when villagers were carrying out land demarcation work for a road-widening project.
According to officials, the drone was discovered about 600 metres inside Indian territory from the barbed-wire fencing along the International Border. The recovery was made near Hazara Singh Wala village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force's (BSF) 158 Battalion and the Jalloke border outpost.
The drone was first noticed by villagers, including current village sarpanch Gurnam Singh and former sarpanch Resham Singh, who were marking land boundaries for the proposed road expansion. On spotting the suspicious object lying in a field alongside the road, they immediately informed the BSF and local police.
Following the alert, senior BSF officials and security personnel rushed to the spot. The area was cordoned off as a precautionary measure, and an extensive search operation was launched in nearby fields. A dog squad was also deployed to determine whether any consignment of narcotics, weapons, or other contraband had been dropped using the drone.
Security agencies have taken possession of the recovered drone and sent it for forensic examination and technical analysis. Investigators are examining its flight data and operational details to determine its origin, route, and purpose. Authorities said the matter is being thoroughly investigated.
