Amid a leadership change in the Punjab Congress, senior party leader Pargat Singh took over as the state Congress president at a program held at Punjab Congress Bhawan in Chandigarh. The event witnessed a show of strength by the party, with Punjab Congress in-charge Sachin Pilot, former state president Raja Warring and former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi sharing the stage.

Addressing party leaders and workers after taking charge, Pargat Singh said the Congress was moving forward unitedly and preparing for the upcoming Assembly elections. He emphasised the need for collective efforts to strengthen the party organisation and take its message to people across Punjab.

Sachin Pilot congratulated Pargat Singh on assuming the new responsibility and expressed confidence in the team supporting him. He said the new state president had a strong team, adding that collective efforts and cooperation among leaders and workers would be crucial to strengthening the Congress in Punjab.

Referring to the weather in Chandigarh, Pilot said he had not expected the weather and atmosphere in Punjab to change so quickly. He said the weather was different when he left Delhi, but the enthusiasm of Congress workers despite the rain was encouraging.

Pilot thanked the party workers for their dedication and said they had consistently kept the Congress flag flying high, whether in scorching heat or heavy rain. He added that the turnout and enthusiasm at the programme reflected their commitment to the party.

Describing the Punjab Congress team as capable of working together to achieve its objectives, Pilot stressed the importance of taking young people along and expanding the party’s outreach. He called upon Congress leaders and workers to reach every village, town and city in Punjab as part of preparations for the Assembly elections.

Pilot also acknowledged the efforts made by Raja Warring during his tenure as state Congress president. He said Warring had worked to strengthen the party organisation during a challenging period and appreciated his contribution to the Congress.

Meanwhile, Warring, in his address, emphasised that the contributions of party workers and leaders who had worked for the Congress over the past four-and-a-half years should not be overlooked. He stressed the importance of recognising those who had remained committed to the organisation and worked to strengthen it at the grassroots level.

The programme brought several senior Congress leaders and party workers together at Punjab Congress Bhawan, with unity, organisational strengthening and preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections emerging as the central themes of the gathering.
