Patiala Police have achieved a major success in their campaign against illegal arms smuggling by uncovering an arms trafficking network and arresting three accused. A joint team of the CIA Staff Rajpura and City Rajpura police station recovered nine illegal .32-bore pistols, 10 live cartridges and 16 magazines from their possession.

The police also seized a white Hyundai Verna car allegedly used by the accused. The three accused are currently being questioned on police remand to identify the persons from whom they purchased the weapons in Madhya Pradesh and those who were supposed to receive the arms in Punjab.

The arrested accused have been identified as Jaswinder Singh alias Gora, a resident of Koir Singh Wala village under Bhagta Bhai police station in Bathinda district; Lakhbir Singh alias Laddi, a resident of Pur village under Kheri Gandian police station in Patiala district; and Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, a resident of Amir Colony in Rajpura.

SP (D) Rajesh Chhibber said the preliminary investigation revealed that the weapons had been brought from Madhya Pradesh.

According to the police, four of the nine recovered pistols were allegedly intended to be supplied to the notorious Bambiha gang.

The police also claimed that the arrests had foiled a major conspiracy to murder two people. Further investigation is underway to identify the weapons suppliers, establish the intended recipients and uncover the entire network operating behind the illegal arms trade.
