Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday participated in the 50th Statehood Day celebrations of Sikkim and inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth around ₹4,000 crore.

Addressing a public gathering at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok, the Prime Minister described the Northeast as the country’s “Ashtalakshmi” and said Sikkim is a vital part of it. He emphasized that the Centre has given top priority to the development of the Northeast and is now working with a “Act Fast” approach, moving beyond the “Act East” policy.

Sharing his experience on social media platform X, PM Modi posted three messages highlighting the warmth and enthusiasm he received in Gangtok, calling it energizing and unforgettable. He extended greetings to the people of Sikkim on completing 50 years of statehood and praised their contribution to national development.

In another post, he shared pictures from the celebrations, calling it a historic moment and lauding Sikkim’s achievements. He also wrote about his visit to the Orchidarium in Gangtok, saying its beauty left him mesmerized and reflecting the state’s rich biodiversity and harmony with nature.
