Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a visit to Netherlands, addressed the Indian community in The Hague and praised their contribution to Dutch society and the economy. Beginning his speech on an emotional note, PM Modi said the warmth and enthusiasm of the gathering made him momentarily forget that he was in the Netherlands.

Recalling the 2014 Lok Sabha mandate, PM Modi described May 16 as a “special day” in India’s political history, saying a strong government replaced a weak one under the NDA leadership. He added that the trust of crores of Indians keeps him motivated to continue working tirelessly for the nation.

The Prime Minister stated that this decade has become a decade of disasters for the world. If the situation does not improve, it could prove to be a heavy burden for decades to come.

Calling the Netherlands the “land of tulips,” PM Modi drew a symbolic comparison between tulips and India’s lotus flower. He said both flowers reflect beauty and strength when nurtured properly, adding that India too celebrates floral traditions, especially through Srinagar’s famous tulip garden.

The Prime Minister said every Indian feels proud of the Indian diaspora’s contribution in the Netherlands. He thanked the Dutch government and people on behalf of 140 crore Indians and extended his greetings to them.

Highlighting the resilience of Indian culture abroad, PM Modi said the stories of Indian families settled overseas are not just tales of migration, but journeys of cultural faith, struggle and progress. He said Indian traditions, festivals, devotional music and values have remained alive across generations despite geographical distance.

The Prime Minister further highlighted the sporting ties between India and the Netherlands, saying the relationship extends beyond diplomacy and trade. Referring to cricket, he noted that players of Indian origin and the Indian community have contributed significantly to Dutch cricket.

Praising the Netherlands national cricket team, PM Modi said the side performed impressively in the recent T20 World Cup in India and gave tough competition to stronger teams. He specifically mentioned Aryan Dutt, saying performances by players of Indian origin bring pride to the community. He also acknowledged the contribution of Dutch coaches in strengthening Indian hockey over the years.
