Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Chandigarh on July 17 to inaugurate several major healthcare projects at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), including the ₹435-crore Advanced Mother & Child Centre and the Advanced Neurosciences Centre, significantly strengthening the region's medical infrastructure.
Addressing a press conference, PGIMER Director Dr. Vivek Lal said the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for a 150-bed Critical Care Block to be developed under the Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission.
Calling the occasion a historic milestone for the institute, Dr. Lal said the new facilities will provide patients with access to state-of-the-art treatment while enhancing PGIMER's capacity to deliver advanced healthcare services.
The Advanced Mother & Child Centre will bring comprehensive care for pregnant women, newborns, and children under one roof. At present, patients and their families often have to visit multiple departments for treatment. The new facility will offer modern ICUs, ventilator support, and advanced critical care services within a single integrated complex.
Meanwhile, security arrangements for the Prime Minister's visit have been intensified. Senior officials from the Chandigarh Administration and Police have been holding high-level review meetings at the Secretariat to ensure seamless security and logistical preparations for the event.
