Hamza Burhan, one of the key conspirators behind the 2019 Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were martyred, has reportedly been killed by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
According to reports, Hamza Burhan, also known by the alias “Doctor,” was attacked near Muzaffarabad in a densely forested area. Unknown assailants allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on him, leaving his body riddled with bullets. He died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Hamza Burhan’s real name was Arjumand Gulzar Dar, a native of Ratnipora village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district. He had reportedly been living in PoK for several years under the fake identity of a school teacher while allegedly operating terror training camps and infiltration networks from behind the cover.
The 27-year-old was a senior commander of the terror outfit Al-Badr and was believed to be working closely with networks linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). India’s Ministry of Home Affairs had officially designated him as a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in 2022.
His name was also included in the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) chargesheet related to the Pulwama terror attack. Apart from Pulwama, he was also accused of being involved in planning terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir, including the Pahalgam attack.
Reports state that Dar had legally travelled to Pakistan before joining the Al-Badr terror outfit, where he later emerged as one of its active commanders. Indian agencies had earlier accused him of radicalising youth, recruiting operatives, and arranging funds for terror activities from Pakistan.
