The results of Punjab’s municipal body elections will be declared on May 29, with voters getting the opportunity to track the counting process online for the first time. Punjab State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhuri announced that citizens will be able to access live results through the official State Election Commission website — Punjab State Election Commission Website.
According to the Election Commissioner, a dedicated counting link will be activated on the website, allowing people to check ward-wise results by selecting their district and ward details. Earlier, online result access was mainly limited to Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
The commission said the facility has been introduced to avoid overcrowding at counting centres and to ensure transparent and accurate dissemination of results. Voting for 104 civic bodies, including 8 Municipal Corporations, 75 Municipal Councils and 21 Nagar Panchayats, was held on May 26.
A total of 115 counting centres have been established across the state. Security arrangements have been tightened with CCTV surveillance and a three-layer security system backed by heavy police deployment at strong rooms and counting venues.
Officials also conducted the final rehearsal for counting staff at all centres on Thursday. The counting process will begin at 8 am, and results will be updated online round-by-round as ward counting progresses.
State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhuri said incomplete ward counts will not be displayed until the counting process for that ward is fully completed. He added that the overall picture of the civic poll results is expected to become clear by around noon.
