Voting is underway across Punjab for eight municipal corporations, 75 municipal councils, and 20 nagar panchayats, including key urban centers such as Mohali. According to the State Election Commission, voter turnout reached 45.60% by 2 PM on Tuesday(26 May).

Polling began at 8 AM and will continue until 5 PM. Unlike previous elections conducted through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), this civic election is being held using ballot papers. A total of 7,555 candidates are contesting across the state.

Meanwhile, tension flared during polling in Ward No. 19 of Samana after a clash broke out between locals and police personnel. According to reports, some individuals allegedly pelted stones at the police, prompting security forces to retaliate. Police later resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the crowd and bring the situation under control.

Despite isolated incidents, polling has largely remained peaceful in most parts of the state.
