Punjab farmers attempting to march towards Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh clashed with police at the Mohali border on Friday while protesting over a series of long-pending demands, including an increase in MSP, restoration of cooperative loan limits, and opposition to new agriculture-related bills.
The Chandigarh Police sealed all entry points connected to Punjab by installing barricades and denied entry to protesters into the city. At the Mohali border, police also used water cannons to disperse the agitating farmers.
According to Chandigarh Police officials, the situation remains under close watch, with senior officers, including the SSP, monitoring developments on the ground.

Farmers raised multiple demands during the protest, including the legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all crops, restoration of canceled cooperative credit limits, and uninterrupted electricity and canal water supply during the paddy season.
The protesters also opposed the Centre’s proposed Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 and Seed Law 2025. In addition, farmers demanded that the distribution of river water be carried out according to the riparian principle and sought the repeal of certain provisions of the Punjab Reorganisation Act.
Meanwhile, traffic diversions were implemented on roads leading to Chandigarh. The road passing behind the Punjab School Education Board towards Chandigarh was diverted, while traffic was also rerouted at the Matour barrier. Authorities said traffic movement remained normal in most other areas, and commuters were not facing major inconvenience.
