Punjab is currently experiencing an intense heatwave, with rising temperatures creating difficult conditions for students, employees, and the general public. In response to the extreme weather situation, the state government has officially revised the working hours of all government offices and schools across the state. A formal notification regarding the change has now been issued.
The decision comes after an earlier announcement made on social media by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who stated that the revised timings have been introduced to help people cope with the ongoing heatwave. According to the announcement, all government schools, as well as offices across Punjab, will now operate from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The new schedule will be effective from Monday, May 25.
The government’s move aims to ensure the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and government employees during peak summer conditions. Authorities believe that shifting official hours to the early part of the day will help reduce exposure to extreme afternoon temperatures, which have been causing health concerns in several districts.
The notification confirms that all classes in government schools will also follow the revised timing without any exceptions. Education officials have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the new schedule, while district administrations have been asked to monitor implementation across institutions.
In recent days, Punjab has recorded a sharp rise in daytime temperatures, with heatwave conditions affecting normal life in both urban and rural areas. Health experts have also advised people to avoid outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours and stay hydrated.
The state government has emphasized that these temporary changes are purely weather-driven and will remain in effect until further notice. Officials will continue to monitor the situation, and any further updates regarding timings will be issued based on weather conditions.
With this step, the government hopes to provide relief to millions of students and employees while ensuring that essential administrative and educational work continues smoothly despite the harsh summer conditions.
