Documents related to the purchase and sale of land and property in Punjab will now become simpler and easier for the common people to understand. The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has decided to replace 35 difficult and traditional terms that have long been used in property registration documents with simple Punjabi words. The move aims to provide relief to citizens who often face difficulties in understanding government documents and property-related matters.
Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian said that the government is continuously working to make public services simpler, more transparent and people-friendly. He said that the difficult language used during property registration often forced people to depend on others to understand their documents. To address this problem, simple and easy Punjabi words have been adopted in place of the old difficult terms.
The Minister said that following the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Department of Revenue and Rehabilitation had constituted a special committee in this regard. Based on the recommendations of the committee, it has been decided to replace 35 difficult terms with 35 simpler words. These include replacing ‘Ujar’ with ‘Aitraaz’ (objection), ‘Arazi’ with ‘Zameen’ (land), ‘Hiba’ with ‘Daan’ (gift), ‘Dakhil-Kharij’ with ‘Intqal’ (mutation), ‘Fard’ with ‘Nakl Jamabandi’ (copy of land records), and ‘Bainama’ with ‘Bikrinama’ (sale deed).
Similarly, ‘Takavi’ will be replaced with ‘Agricultural Loan’, ‘Deh’ with ‘Pind’ (village), ‘Faut’ with ‘Death’, ‘Mushtarka’ with ‘Joint/Combined’, and ‘Mansookh Karna’ with ‘Cancel/Reject’.
The Revenue Minister said that the Inspector General of Registration and all Deputy Commissioners have been sent the list of the old and newly recommended terms. Officials have been directed to ensure that the new, simpler words are used on a priority basis in documents related to property registration. The government believes that this change will make the process of land and property-related government work simpler and more convenient for the common people.
