Punjab Government has stepped up its flagship 'Meri Rasoi' ration kit distribution campaign, delivering nearly 27.18 lakh food kits to vulnerable families as part of its drive to strengthen food and nutritional security across the state.
The initiative, launched under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, aims to distribute ration kits to 40.48 lakh eligible families every quarter through a mission-mode campaign.
Each ration kit has been designed to meet the essential dietary requirements of a household and includes 2 kg of lentils, 2 kg of sugar, 1 kg of salt, 200 grams of turmeric powder, and 1 litre of mustard oil for monthly consumption. These kits are being provided in addition to the wheat distributed under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013, ensuring a more balanced nutritional intake for beneficiaries.
The ration kits are assembled by Markfed, while the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs is overseeing distribution across Punjab.
Among the districts, Ludhiana has recorded the highest distribution with 3,00,480 ration kits, followed by Patiala (2,03,591), Bathinda (1,68,811), Amritsar (1,59,408), Fazilka (1,51,458) and Sangrur (1,47,339).
Other districts reporting significant distribution include Jalandhar (1,44,965), Sri Muktsar Sahib (1,38,009), Tarn Taran (1,33,220), Hoshiarpur (1,28,720), Gurdaspur (1,26,901), Ferozepur (1,09,444), Moga (1,07,324), Mansa (91,274), Fatehgarh Sahib (80,910), Faridkot (77,574), Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (76,928), Kapurthala (75,274), Pathankot (73,793), Barnala (66,193), Roopnagar (60,785), Malerkotla (50,841) and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (45,546).
The government said the initiative is aimed at supplementing staple food grains with essential proteins, cooking oil and basic condiments, thereby improving the nutritional intake of economically weaker households.
Officials said the distribution process is being closely monitored to ensure transparency, prevent duplication and guarantee last-mile delivery. District administrations, along with officials from the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, are coordinating to ensure the smooth implementation of the scheme.
The state government said the 'Meri Rasoi' initiative reinforces its commitment to ensuring that no eligible family is deprived of food security while addressing both hunger and nutritional needs across Punjab.
