The Punjab State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has declared the result of the Punjab State Teacher Eligibility Test (PSTET) 2026. Teachers who appeared for the examination can check their results on the official website: PSTET Result Portal

SCERT conducted the PSTET examination on April 26 exclusively for in-service teachers across Punjab. The exam was held following new eligibility rules linked to teacher promotions.

Around 22,000 primary teachers appeared for PSTET-1. In PSTET-2, subject-wise participation included 450 Arts and Craft teachers, 129 Home Science teachers, 5,151 Maths and Science teachers, 181 Music teachers, 2,054 Physical Education teachers, 12 Sanskrit teachers, 16,825 Social Studies teachers, 343 Special Educators, and 9 Urdu teachers.

Most Teachers Cleared the Exam

Government school teachers had been protesting against the mandatory PSTET examination, fearing failure could affect their careers and promotions. However, according to the result released by SCERT, the majority of teachers have qualified. Only those teachers who did not appear in the examination have reportedly been marked unsuccessful.

Passing Criteria for PSTET

SCERT conducted PSTET-1 for teachers teaching in government primary schools, while PSTET-2 was held subject-wise for middle school teachers. Results have also been released subject-wise.

To qualify the examination, candidates from the general category were required to score 60 percent marks, meaning 90 out of 150. Teachers belonging to SC, OBC, and other reserved categories needed 55 percent marks, equivalent to 82 out of 150.

Exam Held Following Supreme Court Order

The Punjab government implemented the rule citing a September 1, 2025 judgment of the Supreme Court of India. According to the decision, in-service teachers are now required to clear PSTET to become eligible for promotions.

Teachers have argued that making experienced educators appear for such examinations during service is unfair to their careers. However, the Supreme Court granted exemption only to those teachers who have less than five years remaining before retirement.
