The Bhagwant Mann-led government has achieved a major milestone on the financial front, recording a significant rise in tax collections in April 2026. Punjab Finance, Excise and Taxation Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced on Sunday that the state has generated approximately ₹265 crore in additional revenue, driven by double-digit growth in Value Added Tax (VAT) and Punjab State Development Tax (PSDT).

Sharing details, the minister said VAT collections witnessed a sharp growth of 23.28%, resulting in an increase of around ₹230 crore in the state exchequer. He attributed this surge to improved tax administration, digital monitoring, and stronger compliance mechanisms.

PSDT collections also showed an impressive rise of 20.43%, contributing an additional ₹35 crore. According to the government, this growth reflects enhanced monitoring systems and stricter enforcement of tax regulations across sectors.

Harpal Singh Cheema stated that the consistent upward trend highlights the government’s focused policy approach and commitment to a transparent taxation system. He emphasized that technology-driven enforcement, along with taxpayer-friendly initiatives, has played a key role in achieving these results.

The minister further assured that the government will continue taking strict action against tax evasion while ensuring ease and transparency for honest taxpayers.

This strong performance not only strengthens Punjab’s financial position but also lays a solid foundation for future development initiatives. The steady rise in tax revenue indicates growing economic activity in the state and a more efficient revenue collection system.
